I just signed for mine an hour ago, though I went for an XLT instead. And I’m moving from a 2011 Ranger Sport 4x4 to the 2020 XLT Sport 4x4. I took the new one for a spin to check it out before going in to start the paperwork, and having literally jumped out of the old Ranger and into a new one, here’s what I noticed: Read more
Interesting data point. If you factor in track width the current ranger is ~22% smaller than the current F150. If you compare 2000 to 2000, the ranger was about ~22% smaller than the f150. If you are interested the current ranger is still 15% smaller than a 2000 F150. Read more
I’m not a car enthusiast. Not in the sense that I expect and desire every car to be a thrilling experience. I’m perfectly ok with most cars so long as they are reasonable at whatever their intended job is. I rented a Sentra about 5 years ago. The CVT was f****ing horrendous. Just pulling forward from a stop, the damn… Read more
I was behind a black one of these at a light the other day and was actually surprised it was a Sentra. It looked fairly premium, especially in black. Read more
I love the fact that you have the Metal Gods up on the stereo.
It’s more fun to some people, including me. Wheeling doesn’t need to be about optimization or ease-of-use. It’s an inherently illogical hobby, after all! Read more
Haha, yeah that’s a weird phrase. But what they meant was, like, a red/blue hot/cold knob as opposed to something you can set to XXºF. Read more
Thanks for the well-sharpened article, Andrew. You’ve well understood everything we discussed, and you’ve quoted me accurately while neatly trimming away the extensive additional conversation we had.
Interesting range of comments. Lots of the customary types—“This guy’s wrong” and “This guy’s right” at various lengths,… Read more
A Goniometer is like a headlamp dyno. It tells you how much light (horsepower) and where in the pattern (RPM) creating a sort of topography map, called an isoplot, that can be compared to the FMVSS108 requirements (max and minimums). The isoplots or headlamp simulations from CAD can be uploaded into a simulator to…
I first encountered Daniel Stern online in the early-mid 1990s on usenet in either rec.autos.driving or rec.autos.tech or one of the more specialized groups in the rec.autos hierarchy. This was before the world wide web reached any sort of significant usage level. At that time if memory serves me correctly he was… Read more
Good article. Even OEM lights from automakers can fail to pass muster, or be better or worse. For about four months (until I got sick of it), I had a 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL Premum 4MOTION. On the current-generation Tiguan, which began in MY2018, only the top couple of trims included the LED headlights. Read more
Daniel Stern is THE man. He fabbed up a full main and high beam harness for my 89 Land Cruiser with majorly upgraded Hella lenses and upgraded Halogens. Before and after performance was staggering—before it was like driving down the road with 2 candles and after even on low beams I could see forever. Read more
here’s my advice, as an amateur that is probably slightly older than most of the readers here. when you’re in your 20's and 30's, don’t buy a new car or anything else you don’t NEED. paying down your debt is the smartest thing you can do, because the interest rate is usually higher on that than on what you could… Read more
