Over the weekend, Audi released the first official shots of its 2006 A4 Cabriolet, the final variant of the redesigned A4 to be revealed. As with the other A4s, the most distinctive styling difference between the new model and the previous cabrio may be that divisive floor-to-ceiling grille, but it's otherwise gotten the same degree of reengineering as its siblings. At launch, the cabrio will get a similar choice of gas powerplants as in its European siblings: for gas engines, the 255hp, 3.2-liter FSI V6 tops the range, followed by the or the 200hp 2.0-liter FSI turbo four and holdover 163hp 1.8T; for diesel, there's the torquey 233hp six-cylinder 3.0 TDI (though no 1.6-liter gas, or TDI fours). For cog swapping, cabrio buyers will get a choice of five- and six-speed manual, seven-speed CVT multitronic or six-speed Tiptronic transmissions. Plus, for those concerned with top-up road noise interfering with their podcast listening, an optional sound-damping package reportedly reduces the interior sound level to that of the A4 sedan at highway speeds.
