We had heard rumblings coming out of the decomposing corpse that is TVR, but we just thought it was maybe the gasses of decay or something. First the TVR website returned, and then we heard that TVR was back in British hands. Now though, the new owner is saying the storied marque is going to be back making cars.
I'll be the first to admit I was skeptical when I first heard that something was going on with TVR. People buy brand names all the time, and at one point TVR's previous owner, Russian businessboy Nikolai Smolenski even thought he'd slap it on wind turbines for some reason. Probably because when people think reliable energy that won't kill you, they think TVR.
But now, TVR the car company is rising from the dead, according to an interview with new owner Les Edgar at TopGear.com:
"You can't let these great brands disappear or go abroad," he said. "The starting point was ‘let's get it back'. There's a huge amount of passion with the TVR brand. You'd be hard-pushed to find a British car brand that generates so much passion."
Let's hope all that passion isn't the Ferrari style of passion, with cars blowing up left and right. For what it's worth, Edgar also claims that he's bringing aboard people with business sense and extra money, so that TVR doesn't completely collapse just as it's entering rehab.
Edgar also won't say what kind of cars exactly he'll be bringing back right away, so feel free to wildly speculate. I'll start – how about a TVR Sagaris Speed 12, with no traction control whatsoever?
