A clearer picture of Ford's plan for the post-minivan world may be emerging, with new SUV-like crossovers set to phase out the traditional play-date pods, according to Edmunds Inside Line. Unnamed sources told an IL reporter Ford has several new crossovers in the planning stages, including those based on 2005 design concepts, the Ford Fairlane and Mercury Meta One. Like the Ford Five Hundred and Freestyle, and Mercury Montego, the new utes will likely be based on the Volvo D3 platform, and arrive in 2008, just as the Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans are to be discontinued.
