Andy, Are You Goofing On Elvis? The Joy of 'Taxi'

'Round Jalopnik parts, we now and then mention television series like Starsky and Hutch, The Dukes of Hazzard and Knight Rider. Shows in which automobiles and car chases were as part and parcel of the episodes as the actors. Taxi, while nominally centered around a group of people operating Checker Marathons, had practically nothing to do with cars, other than Latka's perennial greasiness and the fact that his wife's name was a homonym for a brand of French automobile that was eventually subsumed by Chrysler. It was also one of the best-written sitcoms ever. They're filming an episode of WIthout a Trace around the corner today. And although we have no beef with Anthony LaPaglia, we doubt his show will ever be as fondly remembered.
