Truck YeahThe trucks are good!

As well as giving Europe a better supermini with the turbo Up, Volkswagen will also have a compact SUV concept at Geneva featuring “hardly any switches.” But are we looking at the first member of an extended Tiguan family?

The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan won’t suck nearly as much as the first generation did in America. In fact, there’s a good chance it will be a great compact SUV, since it’s based on VW’s MQB platform and that alone makes a huge difference.

For starters, it’s bigger both inside and out, a good 110 pounds lighter, and you can still have it with all-wheel drive, since it’s a SUV after all. No doubt VW will turn the hybrid GTE concept into reality in some toned down form as well, and rumor has it that they also plan a five-seater coupe and a long-wheelbase version with seven seats, making the Tiguan brand represent much more than a beefed up Golf Alltrack with a hatchback body.

What Americans should try out for a change is the European Passat GTE hybrid wagon, but I guess that will have to wait until the general public gets over this already too long crossover phase.

Having said that, I’m still loving this.
