If you swap on new tires right at the end of a race, you should be required to burn off all the tread before you put the car away. Like this!
Who said GT3 racers were all business, and no party? Here’s the No. 29 Audi Sport Team Land R8 LMS that won the Nürburgring 24 Hours completely enveloping itself in its own tire smoke.
Team Land won the race after spending way too long on a fuel stop in the final hour of the race. Just before the team was going to let the car back out, someone noticed that it was raining on the circuit. So, they threw on a set of rain tires, allowing their Audi to go way faster than much of their competition that had stayed out on slicks.
Team Land ended up winning the race overall by 29.418 seconds, and of course, driver Christopher Mies gave us a big, beautiful burnout worth watching afterwards.
If this lovely cloud of tire smoke isn’t proof that teams need to just hoon their race cars more often, I don’t know what is.
