American Chopper Becomes Product Placement King

The Teutul family appears to have stumbled on the holy grail of custom motorcycle building — corporate-themed bikes. It's not that they've stumbled exactly; since 2003, the boys behind "American Chopper" have been represented by Bell Licensing, which handles product placement deals for the shop, now a worldwide brand in its own right. Still, companies like Lincoln-Mercury, NASCAR, Snap-On Tools, Caterpillar, NAPA Auto Parts, and, most recently, Gillette are lining up to get their logos and product themes immortalized on a bike by Orange County Choppers — as much for the cameras trained on the builders' every move as for the craftsmanship. It's a promotional formula that carmakers have yet to avail themselves, considering cable's growing list of car-modding programs. Call us, guys. We've got some ideas.
