Hot on the heels of rumors about Aston Martin joining Red Bull Racing in a F1 partnership comes word that the team’s former rockstar designer Adrian Newey is working on a hypercar that could land in 2018.
According to a report by Autocar, the Newey-designed project would likely be a track-only offering designed to compete with the Ferrari FXX K and McLaren P1 GTR.
Naturally, the Brit pub has their speculation machines set to stun, positing that the new car would use a Mercedes-Benz powertrain, which makes sense given the two company’s tie-up.
Representatives from Aston Martin decline to comment, but in the wake of the report about the possibility of a collaboration between Red Bull and Aston, the team’s advisor Helmut Marko told Speedweek that, “There are talks with Aston Martin - but to other projects.”
Let the breath-holding commence.
