While we're not huge F1 geeks, the technology that goes into the cars is absolutely astounding. Sport Compact Car recently checked in with British American Racing's Gary Savage, and some of what he revealed about the advanced state of the art is as mind-boggling as the Michael Bolton, Kimberly Guilfoyle-Newsom rumors. For example, by 1991, McLaren had made the carbon fiber used in the new Eurofighter Typhoon obsolete for Grand Prix use. In fact, sans the Honda-engineered lump of metal behind the driver, BAR's car is 85% carbon fiber, for some of which the weave alone costs $450 per square meter. That right there's enough to make Ed Roth wail like David Lee.
