Rumors of a new Lincoln coupe based on the Ford Mustang platform have bubbled over on AutoWeek. According to insiders, FoMoCo could have the coupe ready by 2009; that's two years after it launches the new sedans that are reportedly the linchpin of the division's survival. After that, the thinking is, the company will have time to rebadge a Mustang to replace the coupe-sized hole in its line, left when the Thunderbird-based Mark VIII was discontinued in 1998. Still, Ford officials haven't confirmed the plan exists.
