Jalopnik sources tell us the U.S. version of Top Gear debuting on History later this fall will include "The Stig." Hopefully this one can keep their mouth shut.
Up until the recent drama, The Stig's been a major part of the original British version of Top Gear. The previously anonymous tame racing driver said little but provided a benchmark time for cars raced around the Top Gear test track.
Now, a tipster calling themselves "Green Eggs and Ham" says the U.S. version of the popular British motoring show currently in production is going to have its own Stig. Eggs says the filming for car testing is occurring at the decommissioned El Toro Marine Corps Air Station outside of Irvine, which jibes with what we've heard and what we've previously reported.
The identity of this new Stig is is still a mystery. We're waiting to hear from BBC Worldwide, who has so far gone out of their way not to say the S-word, to see if they're finally ready to make an official statement to us.
But if our tipster's correct, it means The Stig's Fat Cousin will finally no longer be the only American to don the tinted visor.
