Some say the Mercedes SLS AMG can fly to the top of buildings without even flapping its gullwings. All we know is, at 571 HP, it's the most powerful F1 safety car... in the world... since the last one.
According to the press release from Mercedes this morning, the SLS AMG F1 safety car is "The most powerful Official F1™ Safety Car of all time" as it takes the lead ahead of the F1 pack on cautions for the 2010 season. Sorta hard to knock that assessment given the power output from the monster 6.3-liter V8 under the hood. That kind of power'll probably leave every other safety car in the dust.
Except, we don't know how much more they can tout the SLS AMG over other safety cars. Especially as AMG, the in-house Mercedes up-powering shop has continuously provided the official F1 safety car for the past 14 years. That's right, the gullwing bird o' prey replaces the SL 63 AMG, used as the Official F1 Safety Car in 2008 and 2009, which replaced the CLK 63 AMG used in 2006 and 2007, which replaced the SLK 55 AMG used in 2004 and 2005, and so on... But whatever, it's all about the marketing.
