One of the pleasures of growing older is the reissue of CDs you once loved as a youth with all the remastering, extended liner notes, rare B-sides, and covers you were too lazy to compile. The remastering of Pavement's Slanted & Enchanted, the album many consider to be the best indie rock album of all time, is no exception. The simple instrumentation, relaxed pop sensibility, and delightfully impenetrable lyricism of Stephen Malkmus make for a wonderful listening experience. From the chill and groovy "Summer Babe" to the punky "Fame Throwa" it's a good way to spend an afternoon. The Slanted & Enchanted: Luxe & Reduxe reissue from Matador combines the original album, in all its distortiony goodness, with a host of special tracks. It's a far better combination than Hyundai and Lamborghini, though el Chimpo thinks we may be missing the point.
