After a two year stint, organizer and team owner Roger Penske announced today the Detroit Grand Prix will be canceled for 2009.


Roger Penske has announced the 2009 Detroit Grand Prix will be canceled because the economy is going into the dumper and racing teams and event sponsors are falling like flies.

This is just the latest in a string of bad news for racing since manufacturers and advertisers are contracting in expectation of a treacherous 2009. We're not going to candy-coat our disappointment at the prospect of losing high profile racing in our backyard, but that just opens up a weekend that LeMons could consider running on Belle Isle.
