1982 Ford F-150 will take you to the top of the heap

Why did Ford build the giant pile of logs seen at the beginning of this classic advertisement from 1982? To demonstrate why the company designs it's 4x4s to "log" high mileage without sacrificing toughness.

As this commercial proves, nothing says toughness like watching a truck bounce through the air as it negotiates a massive log mountain built solely for the purpose of demonstrating a truck's toughness.

Notice the only-seen-for-two-seconds path of logs laid out specifically for the truck.

Of course, getting up those carefully laid out logs is still not easy, but the advertising is a little disingenuous. I wonder how many current owners of 1982 Ford F-150s would try to take them up the same log heap.
