1972 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu

Welcome to Down On The Street, where we admire old vehicles on the streets of the Island That Rust Forgot: Alameda, California. Repo Man made the Chevy Malibu a cult favorite, so here's our second example in as many months.

I tend to prefer the more angular previous-generation Chevelle to the curvier '68-72 cars, but this is still one of Chevrolet's better-looking designs. Even this mean-looking street fighter, key-stripe graffiti and all, looks pretty good; in fact, in many ways it looks better than its coddled brethren who come out only for car shows.

Hey, it's the 1960 Rambler American Custom from across town! Sharp-eyed readers might recognize this block as the home of the '66 Dodge Coronet 440 convertible, and it's a good bet that the three cars share an owner. As an added bonus, last weekend's '73 K5 Blazer lives just around the corner.
