Dekotora is easy to understand. A shortened version of ‘decorated trucks,’ these are just... trucks... that Japanese truck drivers... decorate. But there’s something more to it.
In short, these things have style. Totally plebeian machines doing normal work tasks get done up into an art form.

Jalopnik has been writing about dekotora for years now, but usually we have been looking at the big trucks that have survived, physically, into the 2000s. Rarely do we see ones that are a little bit older, a little bit less complete, a little bit more seat-of-the-pants and aspirational.
