What's the Dumbest Thing You've Ever Done to Your Car?

If we’re lucky, cars are largely with us through life’s ups and downs. We learn and grow as we age and our cars are there for us. Unfortunately, sometimes that means we learn through doing dumb stuff to them.

Obviously, we’ve seen some stupid mods. But this can be about anything, really. A botched mod. A botched repair. An attempted improvement that backfired spectacularly.

I’ll give you a few examples to get the ball rolling. Our own Tom McParland once put some cheap coilovers found from the back of a Sport Compact Car magazine on his Prelude. I am assuming this led to disaster.

And Jason Torchinsky once stuck a cheap transaxle from a Baja in his Beetle. It was, as he told it, “full of sand and sounded like a million gnomes running on gravel.”

Look, I get it. You always start out with the best intentions. I’m not questioning that, I’m questioning your results. Unless, of course, you started out with evil intentions. Because if so, then I want to hear about that even more.
