Hey, remember earlier this week when we saw the mid-engine 2020 Corvette hustling around the Nürburgring in all that camouflage, and everyone was wondering if it would end up looking too much like a Ferrari or a McLaren? Evidently the Germans can’t even be bothered to disguise the all-new 2019 Porsche 911 at all, because here it is in all its glory, pretty much.
Surprise: it’s a 911! It looks like a 911, unless Aston Martin is pulling the biggest troll job of all time. I love how Porsche still covers up the company logo on the taillight, as if it’s not completely obvious what this is.
Anyway, it may not look that vastly different from the current 991—or really even the old 997—but this new car, dubbed 992, is all-new and all-different under the skin. It’s expected to be lighter and more efficient than the current model, as well as a better performer, and probably with some form of electrification coming at some juncture.
The biggest cosmetic change is that thin, solid, horizontal light bar across the rear end, which I think looks pretty sharp. I do kind of wish Porsche had done something more experimental with the nose and headlamps of the 911, but considering how much the community lost its shit over the runny-egg headlamps on the 996, they will probably never try to mess with that again.
Anyway, enjoy the pics, particularly of that massive rear spoiler deploying at speed.
