Nearly 20 years ago, an 11-second car was fast. It’s still fast now, but back in the early 2000s, if you had a 11-second car, your shit was fast. Now it’s 2018 and a stock Mustang GT that you could walk off the lot with today can lay down an 11-second quarter mile like it’s nothing. What a time to be alive.
The team at Hot Rod decided to go test the new Mustang for themselves by taking it to a dragstrip. On their final and best run, they hit a quarter mile in 11.835 seconds at 119.51 MPH. This was with Drag Strip Mode and the 10-speed automatic transmission.
To put that into perspective, a 2000 Ferrari 360 Modena could do a quarter mile in 12 seconds, according to Zero to 60 Times. So, there you have it: a muscle car in the $40,000 range that can smoke a Ferrari from just a decade before.
Will these cars plateau at some point? They have to, right?
