What's Your Most Unpopular Car Opinion?

I’ll go first: I don’t really like the Porsche 911.

Before you try to find out my address and threaten me in German, let me explain. I don’t like the Porsche 911 because I see it everywhere and specifically because it’s so good. The 911 is touted time and time again as the greatest sports car ever made. Given its Nurburgring times and the fact that they’ve been making it for more than 50 years, it (probably?) earns that superlative.

But Ferry Porsche’s own beautiful automotive son is just boring. It’s so good, so fast, and so popular that I hate it. Every suit with more than $90,000 buys a 911 because it’s the unimaginative choice for “best car.” It’s not exciting because it’s so ubiquitous—but still lauded as exclusive and special. Porsche made its one-millionth 911 this year and they are still treated as a special automotive Messiah.
