There was a time when an AMG wasn’t just some car you bought from a dealership. Not long ago you, could take your Mercedes and a large stack full of cash to the tuners at AMG—then a separate company from Benz itself—and they would make you basically whatever you wanted, even if that meant stuffing a 6.0-liter V8 into a wagon.
Recently, our friends at Petrolicious took a look at this insane beast—a station wagon with the power of an AMG Hammer.
Of course, we all love fast wagons here at Jalopnik, and there are some wonderful performance longroofs available, but most of them don’t make their way across the ocean because America is too obsessed with SUVs. Things are slowly starting to change, though, with Volvo getting back into the large wagon game and Jaguar offering the super sexy XE Sportbrake.
Mercedes has been fairly consistent in offering us an AMG spec E-class wagon throughout the years and the current car packs a 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 cranking out an impressive 605 horsepower.
But it’s important to remember that AMG wagons began with someone with a dream, a boatload of money, and some mad scientist mechanics willing to build it.
