For most enthusiasts, countless vehicles fit into various categories of less-than-desirable, ranging from below average to outright awful. That granularity exists because cars can offer plenty of redeeming qualities underneath a thick layer of unpleasantness. It might not make a difference when making a purchase, but it sticks around in your mind as you hope to see those elements on other cars in the future.

What perfect features are found on awful cars? Do you think other automakers should follow Ferrari’s lead and move the turn signal controls to buttons on the steering wheel? Should door projector puddle lights be standard so you always know what you’re stepping into while getting out of a car? Is Rolls-Royce on to something with door-mounted umbrellas? I’m not saying these manufacturers build awful cars, they’re just a few examples of interesting features to get your gears turning.

Jalopnik senior editor Daniel Golson suggested the removable midgate on the Chevrolet Silverado EV. The electric pickup is a bit of a dud thanks to a terrible driving experience in some trims and a high price, and Hertz is already selling off its fleet of Silverado EVs. In September, the rental company listed the Chevy pickups with discounts starting at ten percent. However, the Multi-Flex Midgate is one of the truck’s bright spots. Owners can extend the pickup bed by folding the midgate flat and removing the rear window. It’s a handy feature when beds are getting smaller across the entire segment.
