This is new. Beachgoers in South County, California, soaked up more than sunshine and sand on Wednesday, when a man led police on a wild car chase across a number of beaches along the Pacific Ocean. And then, police say, he ended the scenic chase by running into the water.
According to The Tribune in San Luis Obispo County, California, 38-year-old Joshua Jordan was spotted in a white Lexus around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, but he allegedly refused to pull over. Then, he started driving the wrong way. The Tribune picks it up from there:
About an hour and a half later, Jordan was spotted again in Pismo Beach. When Pismo Beach police resumed the chase on Highway 1, Jordan entered Oceano Dunes State Beach at Grand Avenue and headed south at 40 mph. Families and children playing on the beach had to run for cover as Jordan sped past, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The Tribune says that Jordan’s vehicle eventually got stuck in the sand (who would’ve imagined) around 4:15 p.m. He reportedly proceeded to jump out of the vehicle and into the sweet embrace of the Pacific Ocean. Armed state park rangers took Jordan—a parolee with a wanted on suspicion of making felony criminal threats, the Tribune reports—into custody shortly after.
Now, according to the Tribune, he’s facing additional charges for evading authorities and possibly injury or death for his drive through the beach.
