Driving through New York can be harrowing, but that’s mostly because there are way too many vehicles on the streets. I think to truly be able to experience a nice city drive, you have to get out really, really early. Or go back in time.
What did Manhattan streets look like in the 1930s? Glad you asked—The New Yorker uploaded this neat little video of a side-by-side view of familiar New York City streets then and now. What is perhaps the most striking thing here is how few cars are on the road and how much more driving freedom people seemed like they had.
It’s fun. Check it out.
