Ferrari is said to have built 499 production LaFerraris. Only if there’s a lot of money and prestige involved, or some other very special circumstances, will it break that rule and make any more. But to benefit the Italian people? That’s a good enough reason.
Ferrari boss Sergio Marchionne announced in Maranello today that Ferrari will build one last LaFerrari, our friends at Road & Track report.
The 500th LaFerrari (doesn’t that just have a cool ring to it) will be auctioned off and the proceeds will be used to help the victims of the 6.2-magnitude earthquake that hit central Italy on August 24. Nearly 250 people were killed, and recovery efforts are ongoing.
It’s unclear as to when the car will be finished or where it will be sold, but since it’s a LaFerrari, there’s little doubt in my mind that Ferrari will find a buyer.
I’m also pretty sure that it won’t be hard for Ferrari to make another LaFerrari. After all, the LaFerrari Spider still needs building, so it wouldn’t make sense for Ferrari to have thrown away all the tools already.
