Sometimes I am simply overcome with an inexplicable and inexorable automotive obsession. There’s nothing I can do about it. At least, that’s what I’m telling myself having spent the last hour doing nothing but watching videos of RB5s.
The RB25 is a 2.5 liter straight six, turbocharged, from the 1990s. If you’re being very objective, there’s not a lot to obsess about. We never got them here in the United States, so they do have a kind of forbidden fruit factor, but they aren’t quite as weirdly small as the little two-liter RB20s, as famously powerful as the bigger RB26s, or as monstrous as the vast RB30s. They sound cool, sure, but maybe not much cooler than other straight sixes.
RB25s are just available, tunable, and a little odd.
Naturally, I have a massive fascination with them at the moment. I want an RB25. I want everything I own to have an RB25. I want my desk fan to run on an RB25.
What’s your current automotive obsession?
