The most iconic custom car builder of the most iconic custom cars to grace a TV screen, George Barris, is reportedly dead.
The news comes from a number of outlets citing a private Facebook post from his son Brett.
Sorry to have to post that my father, legendary kustom car king George Barris, has moved to the bigger garage in the sky. He passed on peacefully in his sleep at 2:45 am. He was surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home. He lived his life they way he wanted til the end.
The larger-than-life figure defined the mainstream adoption of the custom scene in the 1960s. He also was infamous for claiming ownership of designs he didn’t pen.
But he will be missed. His passing is the end of an era.
