If you visit a car museum like the Petersen or the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum, once you put your jaw back to its place, start wondering what’s going on in the background, because at such establishments, they sure as hell can’t wait for a restoration to finish before the next one starts. Jay Leno seems to have the same problem.
Mr. Denim Shirts might not have the most eccentric car collection in the world, because nobody can take away that title from Myron Vernis, but Jay Leno’s Garage still requires a whole team of experts to keep the fleet running and take care of Jay’s latest acquisitions.
Be that a 1914 Detroit Electic eaten by termites that needs a modern electric drivetrain, a friend’s rusty Lotus Cortina, his General Manager’s custom built racing sidecar, a super rare Cunningham, a one-off 1952 hot rod full of aircraft parts donated to the garage by its creator’s son, a monterous Rolls-Royce Merlin, a 1932 Harley-Davidson stationary generator, a replica of the famous Mercedes-Benz transporter truck or an original 1966 Volvo 122S wagon that is waiting to be turned into a crazy Polestar race car powered by a four-cam flat crank V8, Jay’s team will be doing the magic all year long.
Every kid should spend a day at a place like this. It’s the best school there is.
