This guy thinks so, and he's driven the LaFerrari, the Porsche 918, the McLaren P1 and just about everything else on the planet.
Seriously, if there's a performance car on the market today that you drool after, Carlos Lago at MotorTrend has probably driven it. He's tested about every Ferrari on the market, every Porsche, Corvette, Lamborghini, McLaren, whatever. Old Mazdas and Subarus, AMGs and Ms, Hellcats, Astons, and even the Morgan Three-Wheeler all got his treatment.
Which is why it's nice to hear from his mouth that the 1993 Nissan 240SX with an E-Rod LS3 is "the best car in the world."
I mean, drift kids figured this out a while ago, and a quick google search of "don't hate, get a V8" gives you all the evidence of that you need.
But there's more to the car than just a really loud way to make tire smoke.
The car is just as light and as balanced as it was when it had a stock four-cylinder. Now it just has 430 horsepower to push around its 2,800 pounds.
A few tests found the car had as much lateral grip as a Ferrari 458, and was quicker around a road course than a new BMW or Mustang. Lago wants to make his '240SS' faster. I just want him to keep preaching its low weight, simple design ethos.
