It's no secret that the relationship between Jim Glickenhaus and Ferrari has been a bit, um, strained. So when Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus announced plans to build its first ground-up hypercar, there were questions about what engine would be stuffed in the middle. Now we know.

Jalopnik has learned that the SCG 003 will use a Honda 3.5-liter V6, boosted with a pair of turbos and making well over 500 hp.

Exactly what six SCG will use is unknown, but the smart money is on a variant of the J35Y4 found in the Acura RLX. With direct injection, a single overhead cam, and an 11.5:1 compression ratio putting out 310 hp and 272 lb-ft of torque, it could provide a suitable starting point for the SCG 003. That engine also forms the basis for Honda's HR35TT V6 (pictured at top), which Starworks and Honda race in two HPD Tudor SportsCar Championship prototypes.

And then there's another variable in the powertrain equation: will it be a hybrid? Considering Glickenhaus describes the SCG 003 was an LMP1 car for the road – and based on both the chassis images and a few renderings we've seen, it is – something electrically augmented certainly isn't out of the question. We'll know more in the run-up to the SCG 003's debut at the Geneva Motor Show next year.
