If you thought the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG Coupe was impressive — and you should because it is amazingly powerful and luxurious — then it's about to laugh at you as it screams "This isn't even my final form!" Meet the S65 AMG Coupe, one of the most powerful two-door Mercedes-Benzes ever.
If there were people out there who somehow believed that the S63's 5.5-liter, 585 horsepower twin-turbocharged V8 engine just wasn't enough, then this is the car for them. Like its four-door sibling the 2015 S65 AMG sedan, the coupe packs a 6.0-liter biturbo V12 with 621 horsepower and a stunning 738 pound-feet of torque.
This output puts it within firing distance of the Mercedes SLS GT AMG Black Edition. While it's slower than that car because it's heavier, it still manages the zero to 60 mph jaunt in a brisk four seconds. Nothing exceeds like excess!
And the S65 coupe has excess in spades, with an interior and exterior that are stunning in design, technology like Magic Body Control, a lithium-ion battery that replaces both the starter battery and backup battery, a camera that adjusts the chassis based on curves and changes in the surface of the road, optional ceramic high-performance composite brakes, and just about everything else you'll ever need in a car and probably a bunch of stuff you don't but that is amazing anyway.
Interestingly, and unlike the lesser (if you can call it that) S63 AMG coupe, the S65 coupe does without 4Matic all-wheel drive and instead sends power exclusively to the rear wheels. That's more fun anyway, right?
The new S65 coupe goes on sale at the end of this year. Pricing hasn't been announced, but Motor Trend guesses it will sticker around $215,000. Sounds sufficiently awesome to me.
