While Mazda didn't exactly give us a new car for the Miata's 25th birthday, they did roll out a special edition at the New York Auto Show. Now they've announced that one of the 100 25th anniversary edition Miatas will set you back $32,000.

That's a lot of coin for a Miata, even if it's an absolutely loaded one. Available only with the power folding hard top, the 25th anniversary model comes only in Soul Red paint with contrasting black trim and an Almond leather interior. There are no powertrain changes, but Mazda says the anniversary cars get "hand-selected pistons, connecting rods and flywheel to deliver an engine that revs more freely with extraordinary response and acceleration." OK, then.

Oh, and you get a Tourneau watch, too. Complete with the Miata and 25th anniversary logos. Classy.

Mazda is running a pre-order program though its website. Beginning at 11:25 a.m. Pacific Time on May 20, you can put your name down for one of the 100 cars. Even at its rather hefty price, you know they're all going to quickly be spoken for by Miata and Miata watch enthusiasts alike.
