It's no secret that Red Bull was facing major engine troubles in the off-season, and even more engine troubles sidelined quadruple world champ Sebastian Vettel in the premiere race of 2014. But watching the world's fastest man be put in a car that ain't up to snuff just hurts.
The 2014 Formula One field is stacked with champions. Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button, Vettel, Räikkönen, and Lewis Hamilton are all racing this year. Which one is the "best" can be debated endlessly, and that's mostly because the fastest driver is often the one with the fastest car. Which is why watching a driver as quick as Vettel normally is being easily passed by a lower-tier Caterham is so galling.
Vettel eventually retired after a couple of laps. And you don't need to be a world champion to see why.
But hey, let's look on the bright side, because we Jalops are always the optimists. Maybe now someone else can have a shot at the title.
Max Chilton, this is your year.
