Last week our EIC, Matt Hardigree, and his Editorial Fellow sidekick, Chris Perkins, decided that it was a good idea to take a Corvette Stingray Convertible out into the middle of a goddamn snowstorm. As much of the country is on schedule to get more snow this week, we should probably think about that topic.
If you were to think about which convertible you'd drive when it's icy out, you'd probably come to a logical, common sense solution. Maybe a convertible with four wheel drive, like an Audi, or something with low power so that you don't spin the wheels, like an old Volkswagen Golf Cabrio.
I think you'd be wrong. Your #1 option for driving a car with the top down in the middle of a snowpocalypse is nothing but a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG convertible.
And the reason is because of one word:
AIRSCARF.
Okay, so it's basically a little vent in the headrest and that's it, but Merc's Airscarf system lets you drive when it's a bit brisk out, all without getting your neck unseasonably chilly. It is genius, and I am pissed off that I did not think of this one first.
Sure, the Airscarf neck-vent thingy is available in every Mercedes convertible nowadays, but why settle for an E-class when you can have an SLS? Because supercars in snow are just better.
