More than a dozen U.S. Marines were injured Wednesday morning, after a training accident involving an amphibious vehicle went awry, officials said.
The incident happened around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, at the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, located in California, where the Marines were conducting a scheduled battalion training exercise with an amphibious vehicle, according to a statement from the Marine Corps.
Fifteen Marines were injured in total, the statement said, and all are currently being treated for various unknown injuries.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Marines and their families as they receive medical care,” said Lt. Paul Gainey, 1st Marine Division public affairs officer, in a statement.
The accident remains under investigation, and no other information is available at this time. We’ll update this post if we hear more.
