The Toyota Aqua Air Concept Could Be The Most Fun Prius Ever

Toyota Prius owners often say they think they're saving the environment with their cars, so why not put them more in touch with the environment? The sun and the wind, specifically. That's what the Toyota Aqua Air Concept aims to do.

Unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show, it's a convertible version of the Aqua, the car we Americans know as the Prius C. Unless I'm completely forgetting something, it's the first convertible hybrid non-supercar made by an automaker. How come no one has thought of this yet?

Sure, we love to rag on the Prius because it's about the least-engaging car in the universe to drive. But I really like this idea. Ditching the top is a fantastic way to make a car more fun. Everything is better in convertible form, even a hybrid! If you're still not sold on the idea, consider it the second-coming of the Toyota Paseo, that small, oddball 'vert from the 90s we love.

I think Toyota needs to make this happen. It's a convertible Prius — you know it would sell like hotcakes, and it would be a great boon to all the people bummed that the latest Volkswagen Cabrio isn't coming to the U.S.

It beats the hell out of a Prius with a roof, that's for sure.
