This is it. Months after we drove a pre-production model out on a Swedish lake, here now are official images and details on the new BMW M5.

When the F10-based 5 Series was revealed at the end of last year, all we could think about was the 2012 M5. Especially now that we've whet our whistle with this latest set of spy photos of the upcoming model.

The 2011 BMW M5's twin-turbocharged 540-hp V8 is rumored to be mated only to a manumatic transmission and these exclusive spy images inside the cockpit do nothing to quiet those whispers. Does this mean the ultimate driving machine is dead?

The 2011 BMW M5 will likely drop its V10 in favor of a torquey 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 pumping out an expected 540 HP. Rumors aside, these spy photos clearly show a brawnier Bimmer with quad exhaust pipes.

The front end of what could be the 2011 BMW M5 revision will evidently look like the current M3. No word on what's under that bulge or if it's necessary or merely cosmetic. [Bimmerpost]
