We're hearing among the "plethora" of official reveals from Ford at the Detroit Auto Show this weekend will be an additional piece of product pr0n to feast our eyes on — for the second time (we know you remember the first time our Gawker LA videographer Molly caught KITT. That's right, our sources tell us the GT500KR-like Mustang GT playing the role of KITT in the new Knight Rider movie/TV show/Mini-Series/whatevs will be on display for the media come Sunday morning. Now if only they'd fly Will Arnett out so we could hear it say "Mark Fields, jump in!" Yes, that'd be epic. Of course you too can follow along live at our Detroit Auto Show tag page, or if you're technically inclined, hit up the RSS feed for your fave feed reader — or just keep madly hitting refresh on our main page — whatever works best for you. Because that's what we're all about here — you. And cars. And sometimes, the Hoff.

Is that a hood pin?!
I do not remember the original KITT having any emblems, am I wrong?
The Cobras look like Snake-charming Badges Kitt earned in Car Scouts!
@POLAR: No, you're not wrong. The Trans Am KITT had nothing on it to advertise who it's maker was or what type of car it was.
Sure, everybody remembers Knight Rider, but did anybody actually like Knight Rider? I can't imagine this remake is actually going to be any good and I can't understand all this attention for a fictional car that is probably no better than baseline V6 under the hood.
The Batmobile could still kick its ass...
@DoctorNine:No shit, sherlock.
KITT is a Mustang now? I had no idea.
Enough about the fucking Mustang already, we get it.
@weatherman: I loved it when I was kid. Watching it now is a little tougher, but I enjoy the nostalgia. That being said, I'm in for the new movie. Can't see myself making time for the new series (if it happens). If they made a new Knight Rider with the original KITT and Hasselhoff in his rightful role I would SURE AS HOLY FUCK WATCH IT!
Gee, I really dig that dual rear spoiler setup. That sure does look sweet. I bet that it's really beneficial to the handling and not just for looks. "If one spoiler looks that good, imagine two!" Gag.
With the writers strike going on, people will end up watching this cause they can't turn off the TV and what else will be on??? Its this or 7 days of "Deal or No Deal"
Please stop making a big deal about this car...it looks f-in stupid. Put a turbo I-4 in it and cast it in the next Tokyo Drift movie.
I'm a huge Mustang fan, owner and I grew up on the original show. I do not plan to watch this new cheeseball show.
That car's ugly.
Great looking car, but the rear wings should be just a little bit bigger.
And a bubble top would be nice.
And a horn that plays the Knight Rider theme song.
[www.youtube.com]
Yeah, that would be greaat.
I'm assuming those scoops on the back that should be brake cooling ducts are really where the guns are?
You know, after watching the German dubbed Knight Rider intro, I'm thinking they should have let the Germans handle this 'sequel'.. Get the Hoff, use a 911 Turbo, the whole thing. German dialogue too..with dubbed English. Sabine Schmidt should be driving the Knight Industries big-rig, of course. This could be great.
I'll look forward to its debut on IFC and Speed next year. OK, get to it!
i think, this is just disgusting. terrible, plastic. just for kids.
Also, during the run of the original Knight Rider, I don't think I remember seeing a single other Firebird on screen, as if GM were being really careful to ensure KITT stood out.
Are they gonna try and do the same this series or is KITT gonna swing into a Hertz lot one day and be surrounded by slightly more tasteful versions of itself?
@omm:
As opposed to the searing socio-political comment of the original?
Mustang KITT = Fail
Looks perfect to pull up to a construction site with, looks at that scaffolding in the back, my goodness.
2 Spoilers = Fail X 2
@Buckster: damnit! you stole the words out of my mouth.
It desperately needs a third rear spoiler.
@RottNDude:
@thomas124:
While I agree that this car and show are "teh lame" (I swore I'd never use that except ironically), you ARE free not to read any article that doesn't interest you.
@Rust-MyEnemy:
Actually GM was either totally not involved or not involved after the original movie. After the first season of calling it "that black Trans-Am" dealerships were "overwhelmed" (not sure how true that is) with requests from buyers for a Trans-Am KITT package. Due to this Universal was forced by GM to quit refering to it as a Trans-Am and for the rest of the show it was only referred to as a Black T-top.
@ GRZYDJ
I agree. Seating capacity would be greatly increased with the addition of a couple more bleacher seats. Ford retros the rumble seat!
Big mustang fan here that owns a car pretty similar to this,'05 Mustang GT, but KITT needs to be a Trans Am not a Mustang.
Just have a KITT like the original with some upgrades or have on based on a Trans Am based on the upcoming Camaro.
On second thought, there should be no remake of Knight Rider. Hollywood has run out of ideas apparently, hastened even more by a writer's strike.
@dbol1977: Bringing back Knight Rider is still a much better idea than most. Time will tell though if its fate will be the same as those that should have never aired.
