The spectrum of potential careers for car nuts is relatively small, but a rare and desirable driving-based career opportunity just cracked open. Planters is hiring a new class of brand ambassadors called Peanutters, who will also travel the country as drivers of the legendary Nutmobile. The much sought-after position of Peanutter is a year-long contract beginning in June, and includes tasks like representing Planters in parades, at grand openings, and other community events nationwide.
The Nutmobile is a 26-foot-long gigantic peanut on wheels, so anyone who applies shouldn’t go nuts when driving a large unwieldy vehicle — it’s also 8.5 feet wide and 11.5 feet tall, and it weighs 13,000-pounds. The Nutmobile is assembled by Spartan Motors in Michigan and powered by a 6.0-liter Vortec V8, and it has nutty features like gullwing doors, six blue leather seats, a removable sunroof to feature Mr. Peanut in parades, and a backup camera. Its headlights appear to be from a third-generation Chevrolet Tahoe.
Don’t be shell shocked, though — driving the Nutmobile and being a Peanutter ain’t a cake walk. The job listing states that much of the role’s responsibilities are marketing-focused, so it’s more of a PR job than a driving gig, though driving is one responsibility. Other responsibilities include planning meaningful events or gatherings for the Nutmobile and Mr. Peanut to attend across the country, pitching local media to inform communities of the Nutmobile’s arrival, pitching and partaking in interviews, planning and managing all Nutmobile social media accounts, developing and fostering relationships with social media influencers, and more. Peanutters are treated to medical, dental, vision, and prescription drug coverage; a 401k match; life insurance; tuition reimbursement; and paid time off, at least.
Potential Planters Peanutters must have a bachelor’s degree, a valid driver’s license, excellent written and verbal communication skills, high levels of initiative and comfort with autonomy, desire for travel and an appetite for adventure, and of course to be comfortable traveling for the entirety of the year-long contract. If you’re nuts about nuts, deeply media literate and want to drive a giant peanut around the country for a year straight, then this might be a great job opportunity for you. The salary for the role starts at $45,000, though, which is peanuts depending on where you live. Check out the job listing, you nut job.
