Today is National Aviation Day, which means our favorite topic at Flight Club is getting some much-deserved appreciation. For a moment, just try to imagine life without flying machines; there would be no satellites, no supersonic jets, no robots on Mars, no helicopters that transform into planes, and worst of all, no Blue Angels.
What a sad world! I’m glad that’s over with.
So for some quick history, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt proclaimed that August 19th would be National Aviation Day (chosen to honor Orville Wright’s birthday) back in 1939. Just 30 years later, the Boeing 747 would make its first flight and Neil Armstrong would take a giant leap onto the surface of the moon.
Show us your favorite aircraft of all time. As you might have guessed from the image above, mine is the Northrop-McDonnell Douglas YF-23 stealth fighter demonstrator. What a time to be alive!
