Welcome to Sunday Matinee, where we highlight classic car reviews or other longer videos I find on YouTube. Kick back and enjoy this blast from the past.
It's one thing to see Mercedes brag on and on about how they spent a brazillion dollars and a trajillion hours engineering their next luxury car, but a more interesting question to those who are fans of speed is the one that concerns the next great supercars. Luckily, the BBC went into the depths of McLaren factory in Woking, England to find out with the McLaren MP4-12C.
It's been said before that McLaren's attention to detail is almost alien, that absolutely nothing has been overlooked, and that everything is how they wanted it. It's one thing to read that, and another for the people in the factory to show you exactly what that means. It's enlightening to see them fuss over the exhaust note so that it's just so, and then they hand the car over to Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button at the Top Gear test track just to see what they think of the noise.
And then there's the mind-boggling complexity of the suspension in the McLaren. And the steering. And the brakes. And on and on. This is a fantastic documentary for anyone who likes to know how things work, and I can't recommend it enough.
Just don't tell Ferrari that, okay?
