Many great cars get a lot out of a little, as you all pointed out yesterday. But you know what's more fun than moderation? Excess. Which car makes best use of a giant engine?
The 30-liter Continental AV1970 V-12 is a giant by any standard. Each cylinder has the same displacement as the four-banger in a VW Jetta, and the complete engine weighs about as much as a car. With 800-900 hp on tap it provided good power for the M47 Patton tank. Get Gale Banks to upgrade it with fuel injection and a pair of turbos, throw it in a car, and you've got the Blastolene/Leno Tank Car. Thirty liters, 1600 hp, and 3000 lb-ft of torque deserve to be shown off, and the Tank Car does an admirable job of showcasing an engine typically hidden by armor shielding. It also proves there's no replacement for... a giant checkbook.
