Toyota's announced a halt to sales of all eight models involved in the sticky-accelerator-pedal-could-lead-to-fiery-death recall announced last week. The same ones they said last week would be just fine if sold new at dealerships. Details below.
This is turning into the Toyota version of a slow-burning peat fire of public relations disasters. The unintended acceleration caused by either loose floor mats or sticky accelerator pedals has now yielded two voluntary recalls and Federal investigations into the problem. Today, Toyota has announced they're temporarily stopping sales of all the cars involved in the sticky accelerator mechanism problem. Those cars are listed below:
2009-2010 RAV4,
2009-2010 Corolla
2009-2010 Matrix
2005-2010 Avalon
Certain 2007-2010 Camry
2010 Highlander
2007-2010 Tundra
2008-2010 Sequoia
We like "Certain 2007-2010 Camry," which is a new addition and seems unnecessarily vague when specifics would go a long way to putting down the peat fire. In addition to the sales stoppage, they're going to close down the corresponding production lines as follows:
Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Canada (Corolla, Matrix, and RAV4)
Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana (Sequoia and Highlander)
Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky – Line 1 (Camry and Avalon)
Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. (Camry)
Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas (Tundra)
When asked for further comment, Toyota answered through the screen door and said it couldn't come out and play, because it had been bad and its mom had grounded it.
