Facing the ever tightening noose of a forced recall, Toyota's issued a voluntary recall to address complaints of unintended acceleration leading to Fiery Death, which was originally blamed on loose carpets. In total, eight models are effected, details below.
The problem centers on accelerator mechanisms which might "on rare occasions" get stuck in a depressed position or be slow to return when released. This latest recall affects the following vehicles:
- 2009-2010 RAV4
- 2009-2010 Corolla
- 2009-2010 Matrix
- 2005-2010 Avalon
- 2007-2010 Camry
- 2010 Highlander
- 2007-2010 Tundra
- 2008-2010 Sequoia
Currently, there's no fix for the problem, other than to slam on the brakes until you can safely turn off the car and hope you don't have a rogue floor mats getting in the way. If you've got one of those cars, it's probably best to get ahold of Toyota at 1-800-331-4331. [Source: Toyota]
