This new Bugatti won’t even cost an entire Lamborghini more than the Veyron, mostly because it’s not real. Yet they will build a Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo show car for Frankfurt, and it’s the Veyron race car we’ve always needed. And I want to poke it.
Unlike the old Bugatti EB110, or even the McLaren F1, there’s never been a dedicated Veyron race car. But haven’t you always wondered what one would look like? This gets us pretty close. I’ll take 16 cylinders and four turbos of fury in full race setup, please. Even if it comes in the form of a bonkers Vision Gran Turismo car.
These first digital renderings might also reveal a few clues about the upcoming Chiron, so take your time to observe its details. Unsurprisingly, Bugatti calls it “the brand’s tribute to its great racing tradition of the 1920s and 1930s and its victories in Le Mans 24-hour races”. For starters, I would say its ass is certainly spot on, with the illegal lights and all.
Think of it this way: It’s basically the first modern Bugatti that can be enjoyed by more than 450 very wealthy people. Or less. Right, Mr. Mayweather?
Bugatti claims their Vision Gran Turismo was inspired mostly by the Type 57G Tank. In case you wish to check out one of those babies, the Simeone Foundation Auto Museum happens to have one in running condition in Philadelphia. Bugatti also says that the digital car is very close to what would be possible to build today, although the concept shows the extreme side of everything the brand stands for.
With the horse shoe up front, the Atlantic’s center fin in the middle, NACA air intakes on its top and the two-tone blue paint all around, it looks like the Veyron’s crazy cousin alright.
I will poke it with everything I’ve got at Frankfurt, don’t worry.
