Despite the fact it seems insane that this ever actually made it into a real safety campaign in the first place, South Dakota's "Don't Jerk and Drive" public service message is no more. Unsurprisingly, there were quite a few complaints.
South Dakota officials removed the seemingly masturbatory safety campaign after complaints about the inappropriate nature of the message started being sent to the Department of Public Safety, according to the Dallas/Fort Worth FOX affiliate. DPS had apparently intended to send the message to drivers not to overcorrect steering wheels during winter conditions, also known as jerking the wheel.
Unfortunately, the safety concerns were being overwhelmed by the 12-year-old mentality of just about everyone who has seen the sign, leading DPS secretary Trevor Jones to comment on the department's decision to remove the offending campaign.
This is an important safety message and I don't want this innuendo to distract from our goal to save lives on the road.
If anything though, it seems like this might actually get more people to pay attention.
