These Are The Cars You Think Deserve To Die In 2025

There are a lot of exciting new cars set to hit the highway in 2025, which could mean that it's time to start trimming the dead wood on America's dealerships. But are there any cars that we need to kill off to make space for modern marvels like the electric Dodge Charger or the impending Porsche Boxster EV?

Well Jalopnik readers certainly think so, after we turned to you and asked for the ageing, boring or unloved models that deserve killing off in 2025. After much debate and argument, everything from Tesla to Toyota has been placed on the chopping block this week.

"Chrysler Pacifica.

"Sales have been dropping steadily. It's the only car Chrysler has in its line-up. I've yet to see anyone outside of a rental own them. Pacifica is not a very practical minivan, compared to Sienna or Odyssey. Everything inside is very outdated, like any other Stellantis product. Just kill the car and let the brand die already."

Is this the one minivan that disproves minivan supremacy?

"The BMW XM

"No BMW M car should be sitting in the lots, offered at steep discounts nor depreciates 50% in one year. BMW completely missed the mark with that one, an epic failure."

It's easily the ugliest BMW of all time as well, right?

"Current-generation Honda Ridgeline. I'd like to see what they can do with an all-new one."

Imagine a new small truck developed by Nissan and Honda? That could be a force to be reckoned with.

"I can't see the Nissan Z hanging on much longer, especially with Nissan's spiral of dwindling sales and mounting debt. I've seen exactly 1 in the wild since they went on sale, and YOY sales have remained dismal. Even Toyota has expressed disappointment in the new Supra, which has outsold the Z by a significant margin. Given Nissan's recent acquisition by Honda, which is notoriously risk-averse, it wouldn't surprise me at all if the Z gets immediately curbed when Honda begins cleaning house."

I'm not sure if you're saying the Z deserves to die or just that you think it will?

2025 will be the year of the small car, I feel it in my bones.

"End the Rav4. What are we at now, 30, 40 years? I have no clue. But everywhere I look is a Rav4. I don't even care if it's a good vehicle or not, I'm sick of looking at them. Make something else FFS."

Do you want to just stop production of the Rav4, or have every single one removed from the road? Because those are very different asks.

"Right now almost any new Toyota or Lexus. Because they're all incredibly outdated and don't offer anything. They can't compete."

Why stop at the Rav4, just kill off every Toyota and let the brand start a new.

"Chrysler. (yes, I know it's not a model... but it effectively is only selling one model). Even as an owner of a 2023 Chrysler, I think that it is time to put Chrysler out to pasture to join the likes of Plymouth, Imperial, and DeSoto as stand alone brands.

"FCA & Stellantis starved the brand of product since 2017 only relying on the minivan and the 300. Sedans were/are dying, so Chrysler should have been pushing into the crossover space (which was what has been replacing sedans).... but couldn't do that without stepping on Jeeps toes. Well, Chrysler tended to be a slightly premium product... but again Jeep was pushing more upmarket. With the current selling environment, there just isn't room for Chrysler. Punt the minivan over to Dodge... call it a Grand Caravan and be done with it."

Sell it or shelve it? Both are popular options today.

"Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator

"Ford has proven with the Bronco that a truck can have civilized levels of NVH, and decent ride and handling on pavement, and still have some serious off-road chops. I think Jeep can bring the Wrangler/Gladiator into the 21st century without alienating the majority of its market."

"Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. I don't care about the vehicle itself but the name needs to go. An Eclipse should be a sport coupe or sport compact not a Barbie Jeep* . *compact crossover (with apologies to Mattel and Jeep)"

"My son's '99 Corolla. I don't think it's had an oil change since 2010, the oil light has been on for at least 8 years and my son drives it like he's trying to break the track record.

"This thing is like Rasputin. I think if any vehicle has earned a right to die, it's this poor thing."
