If we have to cross water or a crazy gaping ravine, we might as well do it in style. These are the ten most eye poppingly gorgeous gap crossings in the world.
10.) St. John's Bridge, Oregon, USA
Back in the thirties, they really knew how to build a suspension bridge. Gothic style! Thank Mr. David B. Steinman for this masterpiece, Portland!

9.) Hardanger Bridge, Norway
The construction of Norway's Golden Gate was finished just last year. Hoccy:

8.) Confederation Bridge, Canada
Simplicity at its best. It's also very long indeed. Kate's Dirty Sister:
Confederation bridge between Prince Edward's Island and New Brunswick in Canada. 8 miles of awesome.
As long as you don't drive or walk across it, because that happens to be rather boring.

7.) Forth Rail Bridge, Scotland, UK
Opened in 1890, the Forth Rail Bridge had the longest single cantilever bridge span in the world until 1917, and it still has the world's second-longest single span. As the first major structure in Britain to be made of steel, it remains an engineering marvel even today.

6.) Salginatobel Bridge, Switzerland
Designed by the brilliant Robert Maillart and opened in 1930, the Salginatobel Bridge feels so fresh like it was built yesterday, and remains the best thing that could happen to concrete.

5.) Bixby Bridge, California, USA
evoCS explains what's so great about this Californian bridge that isn't golden. Or gated.
The combination of environment and beautifully utilitarian old bridge construction is magical.
That's why it's Highway 1. Or not.

2.) Millau Viaduct, France

1.) Tower Bridge, London, UK
British design straight from the 19th century. It's smart, it's beautiful, and you can get it as a fridge magnet.
